TRAINING PROGRAM

Teaching and training are the fundamental objectives of BBI’s programs. These goals are clearly expressed in article 6 of our constitution : BBI has a vision to spiritually and intellectually develop Christian community leaders.

The Department of Theological Studies consists of several programs. The Department offers a Part-time Program, a Bachelor’s of Theology, a program specifically designed for those in Christian workplaces and Pastoral Counseling training service.

SYSTEMATIC BIBLE TRAINING PROGRAM

The Systematic Bible Training Program (SBTP) is the first program that BBI offered beginning in 1994. The curriculum includes 27 courses taught over 3 years at the rate of 9 classes a year. The courses are grouped in seven categories : Bible (Introduction to the Bible and study of the biblical books) ; Interpretation of the Bible ; Doctrine ; Ecclesiology ; Culture and Mission ; Practical Theology and Christian Ministries ; Church History and Religions ; Ethics.

The special feature of this program is that the classes are taught in seminar format once a month. The students are separated into two groups : the weekend classes go from Friday evening through Sunday and are taught in French. The students have at least Grade Ten level. The week long classes are taught Monday through Thursday in French with translation into Goun for those who do not have formal schooling, but who are able to read and write in Goun or in Fon. Nevertheless, students with Grade Ten or higher may also participate in the week long seminars if they wish.

The teaching has two components : the first part is taught by lecture which may include participation by the students while the second part is taught in small groups where the students discuss specific material. At the end of the small group session, each group presents its findings to the whole class and the teacher can make additional remarks. BBI awards a diploma, a certificate of knowledge or a certificate of participation depending on the results of each student at the end of the three years.
